In this devotional from J. Parker’s book on Intimacy Revealed: 52 Devotions to Enhance Sex in Marriage, she asks if you are under attack. Satan is the ultimate destroyer in life, including sex and marriage. It’s stated in the bible that the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full–John 10:10. It’s stressed that both spouses work and bond together to fight your mutual enemy (136). J. Parker reminds us that Jesus wants us to have a full life including God’s provision for the marriage bed.
Satan can attack sexual intimacy in marriage through stealing your joy, view on sex in God’s way, confidence in your body, kill your sexual desire, opportunities to make love and connection with your spouse.
Satan is active within our culture in many ways… premarital sex, extramarital sex, pornography, and more. It can be active in your own marriage. Giving you lust towards pornography/masturbation, lusting after someone else that isn’t your spouse, not making your spouse first priority, not dating them, not honoring them, not respecting them and more.
I’ve learned along the way that intimacy in your marriage isn’t complete without all the aspects…. not just sexual… but also emotional, physical, mental and spiritual. That you can be close with your spouse non-sexual as well. You can communicate, you embrace them verbally, appreciate them, show t hem your love, and more.
In the days that we feel too tired or too busy or just generally not in the mood to have sex with each other, we still make sure that we show and give love to one another and still want to be close together, like with kisses and cuddles and talking and more and praying. I ask for more opportunities in prayer to connect more and to give us the energy to embrace in sexual intimacy in its fullness.
