Marital Faithfulness

In J. Parker’s devotional book on Intimacy Revealed: 52 Devotions to Enhance Sex in Marriage,  she talks about faithfulness in marriage and that it really matters to God. It’s one of the vows you give to your spouse in the eyes of the Lord.

J.  Parker reminds us that “the Lord is our witness” (112). The Lord witnesses us by seeing how we conduct ourselves.  He’s there in every step of the way in our relationship with our spouse. From meeting to falling in love to being a couple to being engaged to being married.   If you are married in the church, the Lord accepts it.   He witnesses the day we say I do.  He holds to  us, the vows.   The vows are His and we have to honor that with our spouse.  The glory of our love story belongs to Him.  He’s the one who draws us together as one and in turn draws us to Him as well.   That’s why our love story isn’t one, but two.  Because God is part of that story.   God in our marriage watches over us. He helps us in all areas spiritually in every part of our marriage. Emotionally, physically, mentally, and yes, even sexually.

God gave us our bodies.  He wants us to honor that in the marriage bed by keeping it pure and holy.  We have to be faithful. Only share our bodies with our spouses.  Giving it all to them.  Being present emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally and sexually.  We are to communicate with them.  We are to pray and be thankful for our intimacy. Allow God to work in us as a couple and as individuals to keep maturing and growing as one flesh.  It’s not always easy.  The work and the love is so worth it to keep fighting and is really sacred and special. Embrace your spouse completely and give that glory to God too!
