This week’s session during the mom’s group on Tuesday was about Penance and Anointing of the Sick. These two are sacraments of healing.
Penance is the first sacrament of healing where our sins are forgiven. We are reconnected or restored with God and the Church through this. We are given greater spiritual strength to overcome future sins as well and growth in grace
When we confess, we should remember that God already knows that we have sinned and He wants to forgive us. He wants us to confess knowing that whatever sin we did commit was wrong and doesn’t glorify Him. Penance gives us Christians a chance to start clean and pure again regardless of what we have done. Confessing cleans us our souls. It frees us.
Jesus is our true High Priest. Confessing to Him… is God’s greatest mercy!
Anointing of the Sick is the second sacrament of healing where someone who has been baptized and is very sick or nearing death gets an anointed with holy oil. This unites that person with Christ’s sufferings and gives them strength to fight or if they are dying, it prepares them for their entrance to heaven.
